LIFE AT 62 - WHAT ARE YOU DOING ABOUT THE DASH?

Interesting title eh??  I attended yet another funeral today for a friend who died from cancer.  This was an ongoing battle for her since the 80's.  So many ups and downs for her, yet, she was totally positive and upbeat to the very end.  Her life was a shining example of Christ's love to everyone she met.  She overcame many obstacles in her life, including losing the sight in one eye at a very young age.  She had an abusive father and her mother raised her and her siblings by herself.  A very brave little girl, that turned into a much braver woman!  She was an awesome friend to not only me, but to many, way too many to likely even count.  Literally all over the world.  So many international students benefited from her love, and generosity.

Now to the reason for the title.  My friends granddaughter read a poem today and the subject of the poem was life and death.  When you are born there is a date.  In my case, 1951.  Dates are forever etched on your tombstone, a born date, and a death date.  In my case, thankfully that date has yet to be determined.  However hers was 1950-2014.  What is in between the dates?  A DASH.  That dash is your life.  What are you doing with the dash?  For some reason that poem today hit me right between the eyes.  What are you doing with the dash.  I like to think Ive done a lot with it, but have I?  Have I done enough?  Have I touched enough lives in a positive manner?  Yes Ive written a lot of blogs about my dealing with the dreaded c word.  Ive told a lot of people about how God healed me.  I still do that. I try to be a positive influence on people, but is that really enough?  I know that I will be striving for more now!

So now the question to you.  What are YOU doing with the dash?  What are you doing with your life. Are you reaching out and touching lives in a positive way?  OR are you just existing.  Are you reaching the world for Jesus, or are you just existing in your own little world?  Life is a matter of choices.  You can follow the path of good and evil, OR you can choose to follow Christ.  Your choice. You can deal with the dash.  Some people have a long dash between the dates, others only have a short dash.

What are you doing about YOUR dash??
